1000 Jobs/Haiti is Helping On the Ground

April 12, 2010 - Good news! 1000 Jobs Haiti, Inc was able to add 13 more associates to its Digital Workforce in Mirebalais. This is a step forward in our efforts to create decent jobs in Haiti. Right now 45 people are working and earning at least 280% of what the minimum wage is in Haiti. The increase in the number of employees was made possible thanks to the installation of a VSAT system for broadband Internet access. We expect to welcome 7 more associates in the weeks to come, if we can get more netbooks/laptops donated. This project, with the cooperation of Samasource and the U.S. State Department, has brought economic development to those who need it the most; we are now looking for needed support for our associates to allow them to continue working beyond the “Mission 4636” project. With appropriate equipment, reliable Internet connection, and a place to work, a lot is now possible for this young and energetic workforce who is open to so many possibilities!

Plateau Central (Haiti) - As part of its contribution to the reconstruction of the country, 1000 Jobs/Haiti hosted Leila Chirayath Janah (Samasource Founder and CEO) in Mirebalais on Sunday February 14, 2010, where she gave a training on "Mission 4636" initiative. Her mission in Haiti was to establish a digital work center, to create jobs for some of the thousands of people that have fled the capital to find work, through a partnership between these two organizations. "Mission 4636" is a collaboration among several organizations to translate emergency text messages into English to assist aid workers in rescue operations.
Please read Leila's blog and check out some pictures from her trip.

Haiti EarthquakeJanuary 19, 2010 - 1000 Jobs/Haiti president, Buck Close, was in Haiti when the earthquake hit last week. He returned today to lend his assistance to our friends, our employees and their families, with much-needed food supplies, drinking water and medicines. We will also provide medical checkups, and make sure our employees get paid while they take time to mourn the loss of loved ones.

Thank you for your continued support of the work of 1000 Jobs/Haiti. We will keep you posted about our contribution to the rebuilding of Haiti. Please visit our partner's website to make a donation toward one of our upcoming projects.

Thank you for visiting 1000Jobs/Haiti, Inc.!

This website was designed to inform you about the work we are doing in Haiti; it will serve also as a medium for you to support hard working folks from that beautiful corner of the Caribbean. We turn ideas into business opportunities as a way to create jobs in most sectors: handicraft, agriculture, information and communication technology, renewable energy, among others.

We believe in helping people help themselves, as charity alone only creates chronic dependency. We take pride in making available tools that can assist the beneficiaries of our services in becoming self-reliant: education, training, low- and no-interest loans, and sound coaching in small and medium business management.

In the next few months, we will add an e-commerce feature on this website which will allow you to browse through the beautifully crafted embroidered greeting cards, handbags and tablecloths made by women from rural parts and poor city neighborhoods in Haiti; you will be able to view and purchase these items using your debit card, your credit card or your PayPal account, thus helping someone earn a decent living for themselves and their family while making them proud of the fact that they had worked for it. Or, you may simply choose to support our operations by making a generous donation to 1000 Jobs/Haiti.

Please continue to visit us to learn more about the exciting initiatives to come as part of our efforts to fight extreme poverty in Haiti one job at a time!
